Dr Thompson will be responsible for relations with the NHS, a key role as we deliver #BloodSolidarity, a project that brings people together to save lives, supported by The National Lottery Community Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>From Odesa to Merseyside<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Thompson graduated from Odesa State Medical University, ranking 8th out of 410 students, and received a diploma for the best student scientific work while still studying. In the UK she gained her qualification at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, then completed foundation training across cardiology, general practice, and obstetrics and gynaecology. She went on to spend nine years in specialty training in obstetrics and gynaecology with the Mersey Deanery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2017 she has worked as a Specialty Doctor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Warrington and Halton NHS Trust. She holds the Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and has trained in colposcopy, hysteroscopy, pelvic ultrasound and the repair of third and fourth degree perineal tears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Recognised for quality and teamwork<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2024 Dr Thompson received the Warrington NHS Trust \u201cWorking together for Excellence\u201d award as part of the obstetrics and gynaecology team, along with a personal nomination for the \u201cYou made a difference\u201d award. Earlier in her career she won a Gold Certificate for the best audit on the use of magnesium sulphate for fetal neuroprotection at Liverpool Women\u2019s Hospital (2014), and an award for a poster presentation at the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology conference in Dublin (2009).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Research, education and service improvement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Thompson is Good Clinical Practice trained and has taken part in national trials including GBS3 and the Big Baby Trial. She mentors medical students, serves as an educational supervisor to foundation doctors, and has organised practical workshops for colleagues. She has also produced a Standard Operating Procedure and patient leaflets on vulval care (2026) and updated the local guideline on Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bridging two medical communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A particular strand of Dr Thompson\u2019s work connects the UK and Ukraine. She is the author of a publication on organising psychological support for mothers after stillbirth in the UK and Ukraine, published in the journal <em>Bulletin of Social Hygiene and Organization of Health Protection in Ukraine<\/em> (2020). In 2026 she presented at an online conference in Ukraine on the development of the medical care system in water transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her insider knowledge of how the NHS works, combined with her understanding of the Ukrainian healthcare system, makes her well placed to build and strengthen the partnerships that #BloodSolidarity relies on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We warmly welcome Dr Thompson and look forward to what we will achieve together.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An obstetrician and gynaecologist with more than twenty years in the NHS will lead our partnership with the health service as we deliver #BloodSolidarity.
