Preston recently hosted an exceptional and deeply moving Refugee Day celebration, bringing together diverse cultures, music, and a shared sense of hospitality. The day was filled with rich cultural elements, including the resonant and soulful strings of the traditional Ukrainian bandura, beautifully performed by Mariia Petrivska. Attendees also enjoyed a variety of fun, engaging activities for children — which Olha Shalaieva actively helped organize and support — alongside the warm hospitality of an incredible Ukrainian kitchen serving authentic cuisine. Together, they helped build a true sense of home away from home.

Bringing the Voice of “Together” to Preston
During the event, Anatolii Shalaiev had the privilege of meeting incredible local leaders and organizers, including Bernard Coker and Viktoria Murych, alongside Preston’s wonderful Ukrainian community.
It was a perfect opportunity to introduce the audience to “Razom / Together” on ALL FM 96.9 — the only Ukrainian radio program in the UK — and to share the message of a vital community initiative: #BLOODSOLIDARITY.
“This project is our heartfelt thank you to the British people for opening their hearts and doors to Ukrainians during a difficult time,” Ruslan shared during the event. “It is an act of true solidarity. A single blood donation can save up to three lives. Joining this initiative is simple, accessible, and deeply honorable for everyone involved.”
Recognizing Community Leaders
In a special moment of the celebration, Ruslan, representing the International Centre Ukrainian House UK CIC, was honored to present an official Letter of Appreciation to Viktoria Murych and her dedicated team. Their tireless work in supporting the local community and preserving vital cultural ties is truly invaluable.
