Pokrova Party brings together over 200 guests in Lymm, raising funds for a Ukrainian evacuation vehicle

On 26 September, Ukrainian House UK CIC held “Pokrova Party” in Lymm – a day of Ukrainian culture and wellbeing marking the feast of Pokrova. The event drew more than 200 guests: English and Ukrainian residents, coming not only from Lymm and Warrington but also from Manchester, Liverpool and Chester.

The atmosphere was set by the “Ukrainian Harmony” choir from Southport, led by Iryna Shkrum, the energetic band “Don’t Push The Horses” from Bury, and the duo “До-ля” (Do-La). Singer Taras Shalaiev also won the audience’s hearts with his songs. Guests enjoyed free borscht – with warm thanks to Lesya and Sasha Petrov and their mother – alongside traditional food, BBQ and waffles. A stall selling Ukrainian souvenirs, Eseviya, was on hand, children enjoyed colouring activities, and Inna led a macramé workshop. The evening closed with a disco.

The day’s headline achievement was raising over £3,000 towards the purchase of an evacuation pickup vehicle for Ukraine.

Blood donation and NHS support

A dedicated stand at the event showcased the Blood Solidarity-Drop of Life project, which Ukrainian House UK runs in partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant to raise awareness of blood donation among Ukrainians in the UK. NHS Blood and Transplant representatives Mike and Chloe attended in person, offering consultations to visitors and speaking to guests about how to become a blood donor in the UK. Thanks to their outreach, two Ukrainians have already officially registered as blood donors – one of them, Daria, has already booked her donation appointment for 2 November.

About Ukrainian House UK’s work

Director of Communications Anatolii Shalaiev spoke about the organisation’s wider work. He explained that Ukrainian House UK is an international support centre for Ukrainian-speaking communities across the UK, bringing together representatives from towns and cities across the North of England. Beyond cultural events like Pokrova Party, the centre runs a range of ongoing initiatives – from blood donation and media projects to refugee support and grant-funded work aimed at strengthening the Ukrainian community across the UK.

Thanks

The organisers extend heartfelt thanks to Warrington Charities Trust and the National Lottery Community Fund for their support of the event, as well as to all the volunteers, performers and guests who made the day so special.
